I received my very first piece of fan art today. It was a great reminder that spring is finally here. This is pretty awesome:
If you recall my prior site, I had some excerpts posted which would have made this post a whole lot more clear. However, one of the things I’ve learned in my ongoing research on the modern business of writing is that even snippets of books published on your own website will cause some publishers to shy away over copyright issues.
Suffice it to say, then, that Cisco Diaz began as a minor character who sort of took over a major role in a book I’ve drafted. Someone found him so compelling that I wrote three prequel novellas to introduce Cisco to the world and give him a history. Even better, because of what Cisco endures and does, he’ll be around for a long, long time.
I’d love to say I’ve completely copyedited and rewritten those four works. Unfortunately, I have not even taken red pen to any of it yet. I’m still deep in the rewrite of The Winter Plague and fighting for time to do that and write original stuff.
